A local choir, specialising in singing at weddings.
Sponsalia whose Latin name is the word for betrothal, was established in 1998, specialising in singing for the happy event of marriage, for both church wedding services, and civil ceremonies. They are highly praised for providing a unique musical quality to a memorable occasion.
Sponsalia returned in 2014 from a very successful tour in June representing Epsom and Ewell at the Third International Choral Festival held in Uberlingen, Germany. They performed in several concerts alongside 5 local choirs and 3 other visiting choirs from Twinned Towns. Sponsalia were delighted to be accompanied by Cllr Judith Glover on behalf of the Mayor and Epsom and Ewell Borough Council, who extended the formal invitation to choirs to reconvene in Epsom for the fourth festival in 2016. The event continues to build strong links through choral singing and promote Twinning.
Sponsalia’s recent engagements included weddings, participation in the Second International Twin-towns Choral Festival, hosted by Watermael-Boitsfort, Belgium, held over 3 days in May 2012, and performance with other local choirs at ‘Epsom In Harmony’ a Concert for the Borough’s 75th Anniversary in September 2012 at the Duchess Stand, Epsom Downs Racecourse.
As a group of experienced semi-professional singers, Sponsalia are frequently invited to work with church choirs experiencing difficulty in supporting wedding services, and also invited to support chamber concerts.
